Professor Archa Fox

Professor Archa Fox is a molecular cell biologist at the University of Western Australia, jointly appointed in the Schools of Human Sciences and Molecular Sciences. She leads the Australian Centre for RNA Therapeutics in Cancer and the RNA Innovation Foundry, and is affiliated with the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research. Her research explores how genes are regulated, with a focus on RNA molecules that do not code for proteins but play important roles in cancer. She is best known for discovering paraspeckles, which are tiny structures inside cells that help control gene activity, and has published influential work on the RNA molecule NEAT1 and how proteins behave inside the cell nucleus. Professor Fox completed her PhD at the University of Sydney and postdoctoral research in Scotland before returning to Perth to establish her lab in 2006. She is a founding member of the Australasian RNA Production Consortium and RNA Asia, and has held leadership roles nationally and internationally, including serving on the Raine Priming Grant Advisory Committee.
