Cardiac Imaging: Where are we and where do we need to go?

Professor Benjamin Chow is a Professor of Medicine (Cardiology and Nuclear Medicine) and Radiology at the University of Ottawa, Canada. He is a clinical Cardiologist and clinician investigator at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and is the Director of Cardiac Imaging which encompasses: echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, cardiac PET, cardiac CT, and cardiac MRI. He holds the Saul and Edna Goldfarb Chair in Cardiac Imaging Research and is a leader in Cardiac Imaging and Cardiac CT. His research focuses upon the: 1) establishment of novel cardiac imaging modalities/techniques, and 2) validation of therapeutics using imaging.

Professor Chow has maintained a very high level of productivity and has >220 manuscripts published or accepted. Professor Chow has been recognised for his clinical, education and research. In 2006, he was awarded the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Medicine Young Professor Award. This Award is presented annually to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to research and education. In 2011, he received that University of Ottawa, Faculty of Medicine Award of Distinction and Service. In 2012, he received the UOHIAMO Academic Award for Research. In 2013, he was awarded the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Clinical Science Investigator of the Year. In 2016, he has been awarded the Department of Medicine Mentor Award and in 2017 has been named the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Academic Medical Organization (OHIAMO) Award for continuing medical education. Professor Chow has trained ≥60 fellows who have made major clinical and research contributions. In addition, every year, Professor Chow works closely with university students, medical students, medicine residents and cardiology residents on research and clinical duties.
